New Nikon D4?

Posted by George Collazo On June - 6 - 2010

Could this be the new Nikon D4?

I’m not too fond about rumors of any kind, I just let Nikon do their thing and surprise me with whatever they have developed for us in terms of new cameras and/or optics. Last night I was watching the fight of Miguel Cotto vs Yuri Foreman. It was a great fight, our home boy Cotto won and my hat off to Yuri, he was truly a gladiator up there. Before the fight started a saw a row of photographers on the ring side sporting Nikon and Canon pro bodies. This camera got my attention and thanks to the magic of DVR and the fact that I had my CoolPix P60, I was able to snap these 2 pictures of what appears to be a new Nikon. I say a ”NEW” Nikon because on the ring side all photographers show their brands without any inhibitions. This camera shows what it looks like a leather covering;  like those used when new cars not yet in the market and are tested in closed circuits to keep the main features off the spy paparazzi lenses.

This could be the highly rumored Nikon D4, word has it that the new Nikon D4 is already on the field for trials. Could this be the one or is it a new Nikon accessory that I have missed? If the rumors are right, the Nikon D4 has the following speculated specs:

-15.7 MP sensor

-Improved by 1 full stop

-Full 30 fps HD video capabilities, that mean 1080p video capability on the D4.

New Nikon D3000 coming up! First Glimpse

Posted by George Collazo On June - 30 - 2009

The word ran like wildfire, Nikon is coming with a new DSLR called the Nikon D3000 following what seems to be the new number designation on entry-level DSLRS. The post was originally posted in Portugal by LensTip.com but shortly after removed from their blog. We managed to get the picture of the upcoming D3000 from our temporary files folder to share it here. We don’t believe this is another photoshop work but rather that Nikon is indeed coming with the D3000.

Rumor has it that the D3000 will shoot video but it won’t have an HDMI-output and has a smaller flash and viewfinder setup. Among other things on the D3000, is the visible lack of a microphone. Time will tell but I do believe the D3000 is for real.

Another rumored camera is a Nikon D300s which IMHO close to a perfect camera in its class, needs to be mildly updated with some goodies from the new cameras like the D5000, D90 and now D3000. Video? Could be so stay tuned!

How to take pictures of Fireworks

Posted by George Collazo On June - 11 - 2009

It is almost July again and you many folks want to snap a few pictures of the fireworks display. Regardless of what camera brand you are using, you will need a tripod for the long exposures required when taking pictures of firework displays. Many compact cameras have a ”fireworks” setting, this will require long exposures so again, a tripod is highly recommended. Get a good spot where you can get the best shots possible. Have your camera ready for vertical pictures but also ready so you can quickly orientate your camera to horizontal for the grand finale. If you are using a DSLR, it is recommended that you set your camera to ‘BULB’. Check your camera manual if you don’t know how to set the camera to the letter ”B” which is BULB. On this mode the shutter will remain open for as long as you keep the shutter depressed. My ISO of choice is ISO 200 at an aperture of F/8. In BULB mode exposure might run from 1/2 a second to a 1 or 2 seconds.

Open your camera shutter when the firework starts and keep it open so you can record a few bursts on one shot.

A word of advice:
Whatever you do, do NOT use the auto focus system on your camera when taking pictures of fireworks.  You will be better set if the camera is already pre-focused on the area the fireworks will be displaying. If you leave you auto focus system on, the camera will have little to no point of focusing reference thus you might wind up without of focus pictures or worse, some cameras wont shoot unless they are in focus. Have a nice and safe 4th of July!

New Nikon D700x coming soon

Posted by George Collazo On May - 20 - 2009

This camera could be around the corner and available faster than we think. Shortly after the release of the Nikon D3, Nikon made available the D700. With Canon selling the new 5D MK-II like hotcakes, it is time for Nikon to say ”me too”.  Seems like at least in terms of Mega Pixels, Canon is on the lead again in this segment, heck, even folks without previous digital or format knowledge are buying the new Canon 5D MK-II. Lets just hope a new full frame lens is brought by Nikon as a kit to the Nikon D700x. A new Nikon 24-120 F/4 AF-S would be a nice addition to the line while it will make the new camera more appealing.

Nikon 85mm F/1.4 AF-S with Nano Coatings

Posted by George Collazo On May - 6 - 2009

Seems like someone with plenty of time (and art) put together this rendering of what a coveted Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 might look like. Good job and looking forward to that new Nikkor lens.
