Sample pictures taken with a Nikon 105mm F/2 ‘Defocus Control’ lens
Pictures taken with Nikon’s Nikkor 105mm F/2 DC Lens.
This lens defines sharpness, this is a portrait lens with Nikon’s exclusive ”DC” Defocus Control system. Professional lens for those of us looking for more room between our cameras and our subject. Razor sharp wide-open and a ”scary” sharpness at f/5.6, f/8 & f/11. Its sharpness defines the meaning of ”skin imperfections”; superb performance either on film or digital. Defocus control allows photographers control the amount of background or foreground ”Bokeh”. We chose this one instead of the legendary 85 f/1.4 because we prefer to keep our distance from our subject for best comfort.
9 blades rounded diafraghm produces a ”dreamy” bokeh. RF mechanism makes AF fast.
-Defocus Control feature has a learning curve-
* This is a specialty/expensive piece of glass-We recommend to purchase the Nikon 105 F/2 DC lens in USA Warranty Version, avoid the Gray Market version. Reports have surfaced the web about sample variations and DC aperture ring NOT working properly. As a result, pictures @ F/2 might be soft, finding the perfect combination to achieve sharp results wide open is a cat and mouse game between selected aperture and DC aperture. We were no exception, our lens out of the box was sent to Nikon in Melville, NY for calibration. Turnaround was very quick and Nikon did a fine job with our lens. If you get the gray version and it comes with a problem, Nikon USA will NOT touch the lens even if you are willing to pay to have it fixed. Get the USA version and get 5 years of peace of mind.
–If you make a living out of portraiture or take your portraits seriously, this is the lens to go; Worth every single penny!–
Approx street price for the Nikon 105mm F/2 DC Lens: $1,024.95 USD.
