Sample pictures taken with a Nikon 50mm F/1.4 ‘AF-D’ lens
Pictures taken with Nikon’s Nikkor 50mm F/1.4 Lens.
The standard normal lens on 24 x 36mm film. The cheapest 1.4 lens currently under production. Great for candids, full and half body portraits, when used on a DSLR it gives the focal lenght of 75mm; good for half body and head shots. A bit soft @ 1.4 but starts to take off @ F/1.8. We considered the 1.8 version of this lens for less than $100. However, build quality of the 1.8 is a bit ‘toyish’; the 1.4 version is build to last and for its street price and speed is a real bargain. Used to shoot Andréz Jiménez ”El Jibaro” @ F1.4 with available light using a Nikon D100 back in 2002. See our comparison picture, notice the big front element compared to the 35mm F/2 and the F/1.8 version you might own.
Great for low-light situations where flash is not an option or isn’t allowed.
–Highly Recomended!–
Approx street price for the Nikon 50mm F/1.4 Lens: $329.95 USD.
