Pictures taken with Tamron 19-35 f/3.5-4.5 Lens.
A ”cheapo” lens and you might wonder why us shooting with a lens like that. On 2001 we were starting to do table top shots with an Olympus E10 attached to a vertical grip and FL-40 flash. Nice set-up and camera with plenty of Mega Pixels by then (4MP). Since a Nikon D1 and D1x were out of our reach, we waited until the release of the Nikon D100. Wow! a DSLR with 6.1MP and the ability to change lenses for just 2k! OK, we already had a monster Tamron SP 28-105 F/2.8. We were starting our photography ”kiosk” when we moved to Puerto Rico and the Nikon D100 left us a bit broke. Again, the 28-105 didn’t shine that much on a DSLR due to its 1.5x crop factor. During a visit to MN, our good old friend Scott over at National Camera Exchange y Burnsville, traded us the 28-105 SP F/2.8 for the Tamron 19-35 and some other photo goodies we were in need of. The Nikon 18-70 AFS was not on the market by then, so we had no other option. Although the Tamron 17-35 SP F/2.8-4 was available, we didn’t want to shed more money on 3rd party lenses by then. This was more like a downgrade, but we needed wide-angle ASAP, besides, our 28-105 was not seeing too much action.
The Tamron 19-35 is a cheap and a light weight lens. Distortion on straight lines is visible from 19 to 24mm. Pincushion joins the party as well with a topping of moderate CA, but hey we’ve got what we paid for. We took hundreds of pictures and believe it or not, sold enough pictures in 6 months to finance a 17-55 AFS and a Nikon D200. Pictures with this lens are still sold every now and then and are all over this site and our archives. As most lenses, it does a very good job when stopped down from F/8 to F/22.
We don’t regret our deal back in MN at all.
PS, This lens as our Tokina AT-X 28-70 F/2.8, may not produce good results with 10-12MP cameras. Lens flaws are more evident when used on higher MP cameras. Good and cheap alternative when used on Nikon’s D50, D70, D70s, D100 and Canon’s equivalent MP cameras.
